TNT seeks to cut fuel consumption using new wing

TNT Express has been testing a new rear wing for one of its trucks and has reported a drop in fuel consumption of around six per cent.

The ‘EcoTail’ fits to truck trailers improving aerodynamics. The reduction in wind resistance means less fuel is needed. This helps cut costs and should also help the firm meet tighter environmental targets.

DHL to show upgraded fleet at air show

The second Bahrain International Air Show is due to take place soon and courier company DHL has said that it will display its upgraded fleet. The Boeing 757-200 will be in place for visitors to take a look while a DHL Boeing 747-400 will take part in a fly-by.

UPS expands in Atlantic Canada

UPS is to add six more locations to its network in Atlantic Canada. This follows a previous announcement of expansion in the area in November. Back then, it was said that a service would be provided in Moncton and Halifax from April of this year. Now, on top of this development, there will be further expansion later in the year.

FedEx expands Hong Kong cargo operations

FedEx has expanded its facility at Hong Kong International Airport in order to improve efficiency. There will be a near 40 per cent increase in floor space and a new storage area. New equipment and additional stuff will also be brought in.

How do couriers differ from the postal service?

Some people don’t appreciate the difference between couriers and the ordinary post. Yes, both take items and deliver them to a destination, but there are significant differences in the level of service provided.

What are the advantages of courier companies over ordinary post?

To some degree, the line between couriers and the post has blurred. Royal Mail and other domestic postal services have taken on a lot of the features of courier companies in a bid to compete with them. However, they do not come as standard and it probably makes more sense to think of the postal service as offering courier options in addition to its basic service.
