Indian venture taken on by Deutsche Post DHL

It has been reported this week that Deutsche Post DHL has finally acquired the 24 per cent stake remaining in a joint venture on the Indian subcontinent with partners the Lemuir Group.
Deutsche Post bought out the logistics company for an undisclosed sum, giving the parcel delivery firm complete control of the venture, which will now be called DHL Logistics Pvt Ltd.

A company statement quoted DHL Global Forwarding CEO (South Asia) Thomas Tieber, who was commenting on the move:

“DHL and its heritage organisations have shared a long and fruitful association with the Lemuir Group for over 30 years through agency and joint ventures.”

This acquisition will help the company to further cement its strong position in India when it comes to international freight forwarding, customs brokerage services and supply chain management.

DHL has positioned itself to expand its global forwarding services in the freight market on this subcontinent. In fact, the company has already made steps to grow its freight network here, with a planned increase in the amount of retail centres it operates from. It hopes to raise the number from 400 to a thousand within five years.
