UPS has outlined how it will organise the delivery of 27,000 items to Great Britain’s 300 Paralympics athletes. The mammoth undertaking is just one of many for which the firm will be responsible as the official logistics and express delivery supporter of the London Olympics.
Step one will involve the kit being warehoused so as to be rapidly picked and packed for each of the athletes. Items will be scanned for stock control purposes and then packed into kit bags which will then be delivered. Each athlete is to receive three official kit bags containing both competition and Paralympic Village wear that has been designed by Stella McCartney for Adidas. Kit will also be delivered to training venues around the country.
British Paralympic Association (BPA) chief executive, Tim Hollingsworth, said:
"Over the next few weeks, UPS will be delivering over 27,000 items of kit to Paralympic athletes around the country."
"This is a mammoth job and it is vital that all the kit arrives on time and to the right place, so it is important to be working with a company like UPS that is well versed in this kind of large scale operation."
